fruit leather rolls (a christmas decoration idea)

2016-12-02

Right now, i’m sitting here sipping coconut juice out of a coconut. Wish it could be always like this. Oh and i’m listening to Arcane Roots. They’re this band i discovered a while ago, and i really like them. Their music is some mix of slow but beautiful chill-out music and screaming or i don’t know how it is called. But very cool.

I filed these fruit leather rolls both in food and inspiration because they are a snack that can be used as decoration. I love it when food looks beautiful, and rolled up with parchment paper and the ribbon-like thing i don’t know the name of (sorry haha) they get this wonderful natural look.

They are the perfect snack for studying or something like that. But above all, i think they’d make a pretty cool edible christmas tree decoration. Just add another ribbon and hang them on the branches, that’s it!

Now what are they made of? One thing, or maybe two if you want. All you need is some soft fruit and perhaps some cinnamon or something. Throw it in a blender, dry it, and that’s it.

How to make them:

  • 500g-1kg of soft fruit, i used very ripe khaki (you could also use for example banana, mango or pineapple)
  • 1/2 tbsp cinnamon or any other spice you like (optional)
  1. Cut the fruit and blend it until smooth.
  2. Lay the oven or a fruit dryer out with parchment paper. Pour the blended fruit on the parchment paper and even it out with a spoon.
  3. In the oven, dry for about 10 hours on 60°C. When using a fruit dryer, dry for about two days. It should be really dry and firm in the end so that you can cut and roll it.
  4. Cut the whole thing in long stripes, about 2cm in width.
  5. Roll ’em up and tie them!

Which christmas decoration do you like best?
